Leaving monument Valley and heading over to Kanab Utah

We headed over to Kanab. We moved across the high desert and over towards Lake Powell following Route 163 to 160 to 98 up to Page. These are secondary roads and easy to navigate. Our 40 foot 5th Wheel. Going forward is very easy and it is not any trouble to travel anywhere there is a center line. We have been to Page before and out on Lake Powell. We even got on the Colorado River and did the rafting trip down to Ferry crossing but that is another story.

We followed Route 89 to Kanab around the Vermillion Cliffs and through the Grand Staircase, Escalante National Monument. This area is high desert and some forests. There is BLM land to camp on but were we not ready for Boondocking at this point. We found a camp ground as we entered Kanab. It was a mix of old permanent rigs and overnighters. Ever thing worked fine and we spent 4 days there. This gave us time to hike and drive around Escalante. The landscape is a variety of desert and forests. We drove some back roads and went for miles with nothing but nature. This always feels good and we enjoy just four wheeling across miles and miles of different scenery. The town of Kanab is small, but you can find most everything you need to get by. There are shops and restaurants and a couple of grocery stores. We hiked up the Squaw Trail just north outside of town. It is a nice easy walk up and there is a good view of the town and surrounding open lands. Views like these give us opportunity for quiet time as there usually are not many people around. We visited the 2 BLM offices and received information about the area and about dispersed camping. We are getting close to make a trip out on the land.

Our next destination was Hurricane Utah. We moved across Route 389. We did not go up to the eastern entrance as we are too big to go through the tunnels in Zion. WE moved over to a campground near the reservoir and used this as our base to revisit Zion. We had been here 6 years ago and had only a few hours for a quick look around. This has been on our list for some time.
